Gerry Fitzgerald was known as the "Iron Woman of Sudbury" for her ability to pitch entire baseball games with intense skill.  Fitzgerald was not only a masterful pitcher, she was a heavy hitter and a quick base runner.  Her skills on the field resulted in her being nominated for the Norman Craig Trophy, an annual award presented by the Ontario branch of the Women's Amateur Athletic Federation of Canada to the province's outstanding female athlete.
