George Purdy

George Purdy was an employee of the Falconbridge Nickel Mines Limited in Onaping. He was one of the more influential men in the community who had the ability to take a project from inception to completion. Purdy is credited with taking the initiative on various community projects, thus ensuring that needed enterprises did not fall by the wayside. Often Purdy would charge materials and equipment to the mine. When an internal audit resulted from these unaccounted expenditures, the superintendents would quietly drop the matter upon learning that these costs were incurred through George Purdy on behalf of a community project.
