Doug Mohns was born on December 13, 1933 in Capreol.  Hockey was always a passion of Mohns' and in time, he worked his way up to the NHL where he was a defenseman and left winger for the Boston Bruins beginning in 1953.  He scored 118 goals throughout his eleven years with the Bruins.

Mohns was traded to the Chicago Black Hawks in 1964 and then to the Minnesota North Stars in 1970.  He ended his hockey career as captain of the Washington Capitals in 1974.

Doug Mohns is considered to be one of the most versatile hockey players of his time, but that's not all he's remembered for.  During his years in the NHL, Mohns would come back to Capreol, pick up a few local kids, and take them (all expenses paid) to a game at Maple Leaf Gardens where he was playing that night.  The trips have provided those children with life-long memories of one man's generosity and love.

Mohns never forgot his roots and was always willing to help a member his community whenever he could. 

The Doug Mohns Park was dedicated to Mr. Mohns in 1967 in honour of his contributions to the Capreol community.
