Leonard Gilbert came to Capreol with his wife, Catherine, in 1935. Mr. Gilbert was the principal at Capreol High School for many years. He taught English and French literature, Composition, Latin, and History.
Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert were both active members of the Capreol Horticultural Society and over the years, had four children: Rachel; David; Angus; and John.
Leonard Gilbert was credited with providing Capreol High School with a new crest and the motto "Sub Septentrionibus Lucerna" or A Light Below the Seven Stars (in reference to the Big Dipper).
In 1970, Leonard Gilbert passed away. Catherine would live to be 80 years of age, dying in 1988.
