Mond Nickel Beaver

Mond Nickel Beaver

Mond Nickel Beaver

The Beaver was presented to the Coniston Office of the Mond Mining Company on the occasion of their 25th year of operation in Canada.

The nickel the beaver was sculpted in was mined in the Sudbury area (possibly either Levack or Worthington) and refined at Coniston, then shipped to Wales.

Inscription: this Beaver represents the industrial history of Coniston. It was cast in Monel Nickel smelted in Coniston and sculpted by P. Hardy. It was presented to the coniston office of Mond Nickel on the 25th Anniversary of Mond Nickel Company 1900-1925.

The Mond Company was founded by Dr. Ludwig Mond, the co-discoverer of the nickel-carbonyl refining process for refining nickel in Sudbury. Without Mond, we may not have existed.

Mond owned Worthington, Victoria, Mond and Levack mines, and had the refinery at Coniston.
